Use Roamer with AI assistants
Use Roamer with AI assistants
Roamer runs an MCP server: the open standard AI assistants use to work with other apps. Add Roamer's MCP server to your assistant, sign in to Roamer once, and ask about your vehicles in plain language. The assistant reads your Roamer data when you ask, and when a task you scheduled in the assistant runs.
The MCP server is for Roamer Plus members, because assistants answer from the history Roamer Plus records. Why AI assistants need Roamer Plus. New to Roamer? Create your Roamer account first.
Assistants can't control your vehicles. When you ask, and with Roamer edits on, an assistant can make a few edits in Roamer, listed under What assistants can change. With Rivian trip planning on, it can also send a trip it planned with Roamer to your vehicle's navigation screen.

What you can ask
- "How does my efficiency compare with similar vehicles?"
- "What did charging cost me last month, at home versus DC fast?"
- "Chart my charging power and pack temperature during yesterday's fast charge."
- "Why did preconditioning switch to maintain before my cabin warmed up this morning?"
- "Has the latest software update reached my R1S yet?"
- "How has my battery capacity changed this year?"
- "Write up my trip to Moab."
- "Plan a drive from home to Lake Tahoe on Friday, leaving with 90%, then send it to my R1S."
- "Every Monday, summarize my driving from the week before."
Answers come from what Roamer already saved, so the Rivian app can show a newer reading than Roamer has. Planning a trip asks Rivian's trip planner, and sending a trip to your vehicle can wake your vehicle.
Add Roamer's MCP server
Roamer's MCP server URL is https://api.evroamer.com/mcp. Every assistant below adds it, then opens a Roamer window on evroamer.com where you sign in to Roamer and choose Allow. Roamer works with Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Muse, Grok Bot, Claude Code and Codex.
Roamer isn't in any assistant's connector directory yet, so you add it by its URL. One-step connectors for Claude and ChatGPT are coming.
The sign-in window is on evroamer.com, Roamer's new address. Roamer is moving there from rivianroamer.com in the coming weeks, and there's nothing you need to do now. Sign in with your usual Roamer email and password; if your password manager doesn't offer them on evroamer.com, look under rivianroamer.com.
Claude
Any Claude plan works; the Free plan allows one custom MCP server. On Team and Enterprise plans, an organization Owner adds Roamer first. On a phone, add Roamer on claude.ai in your browser.
- Add Roamer to Claude. Claude opens its add window with Roamer filled in.
- If Claude asks how to sign in, choose Sign in now. If it asks which OAuth client to use, either published or automatic works.
- Sign in to Roamer in the window that opens and choose Allow.
Roamer then works in Claude on the web, in the desktop app and in the mobile app. Claude can't change how it signs in to Roamer after you add it; to change that, remove Roamer in Claude and add it again.
ChatGPT
Adding Roamer needs a paid ChatGPT plan, on chatgpt.com in a browser; the ChatGPT apps can't add it.
- Open ChatGPT's Plugins page, select +, then Add custom MCP server.
- Name it Roamer, paste the MCP server URL, choose OAuth, accept ChatGPT's warning and choose Create as a plugin. ChatGPT shows its safety warning for every custom server, Roamer included.
- Open Roamer under your plugins and select +. Sign in to Roamer and choose Allow.
To use Roamer in a chat, type @ and choose Roamer.
Gemini
Gemini adds Roamer only on its website, and only for personal Google Accounts in the US, in English, with Keep Activity turned on. Work and school accounts can't add Roamer.
- Open Gemini's Connected Apps settings.
- Under Custom apps, select Add a custom app, paste the MCP server URL and select Next.
- Sign in to Roamer in the window that opens and choose Allow.
Roamer then works in the Gemini mobile app too. To ask Roamer directly in a chat, type @ and choose Roamer.
Grok
Add Roamer on grok.com in a browser. On Grok Business and Enterprise, a team admin adds Roamer first.
- Open Grok's settings for apps, select New Connector, then Custom.
- Paste the MCP server URL and select Connect.
- Sign in to Roamer in the window that opens and choose Allow.
Roamer then works in the Grok apps too.
Muse
- In a new Muse chat, on muse.ai or in the Muse app, send this message: "Create a Custom Connector for a new remote MCP server, then connect to it. Name: Roamer. Transport: remote streamable HTTP. URL: https://api.evroamer.com/mcp. Auth: OAuth with Client ID muse, no client secret (sign in when prompted)."
- If Muse asks for a Client ID, enter muse and leave the client secret empty.
- Open the sign-in link Muse shows, sign in to Roamer and choose Allow.
Muse asks before it reads from Roamer. To stop it asking each time, choose Always allow.
Grok Bot
Grok Bot is an always-on agent from Cursor and xAI, in the Grok Bot desktop and mobile apps. It comes with paid Cursor plans or a linked SuperGrok subscription.
- In a Grok Bot chat, send: "Add this MCP server: https://api.evroamer.com/mcp"
- When Grok Bot shows Roamer's sign-in card, choose Authenticate, sign in to Roamer and choose Allow. Roamer's window calls the app Cursor, because Grok Bot signs in through Cursor.
Claude Code and Codex
Claude Code and Codex run on your computer and sign in through your browser.
- Claude Code: run
claude mcp add --transport http roamer https://api.evroamer.com/mcp, then type/mcpin Claude Code, choose roamer and choose Authenticate. - Codex: run
codex mcp add roamer --url https://api.evroamer.com/mcp, thencodex mcp login roamer.
When Roamer's window opens, sign in to Roamer and choose Allow.
Other assistants
Any other app that adds remote MCP servers with a sign-in works too. Paste the MCP server URL into the app and choose OAuth if it asks how to sign in. If the app reads its servers from a config file, such as Cursor's mcp.json, add this instead:
{
"mcpServers": {
"roamer": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://api.evroamer.com/mcp"
}
}
}
VS Code's mcp.json names the list servers instead of mcpServers.
When the sign-in window opens, sign in to Roamer and choose Allow. Roamer shows the name the app gave itself, warns that it doesn't know the app, and starts with Location data, Rivian trip planning and Roamer edits off. If someone sent you the link, choose Cancel. If the app's sign-in doesn't match what it told Roamer, the window says "Roamer can't connect this app".
What assistants can read
After you choose Allow, the assistant can read:
- Your vehicles: names, VINs, models, configuration, and orders you're waiting on
- Latest saved status: battery, range, charging, odometer, locks and open doors, tire pressures, software, and everything else your vehicle last reported, such as the active driver profile, climate, drive mode, Gear Guard, and its Wi-Fi and cellular connection
- Readings your vehicles reported over time: climate and cabin temperature, battery, charging, tire pressures, drive modes and towing, and when doors, windows and closures locked, unlocked, opened or closed
- Software updates for your vehicles, with release notes and rollout progress
- Each recorded drive and charge with its date and time, the saved place where it started or ended, and the network and town of each public charger you used, with charge power curves, plus trips and summaries of efficiency, battery capacity, phantom drain, and charging costs, and the notes you wrote on drives
- Names of places you saved and tags you created, exactly as you typed them, and the electricity prices you set for them
- Your time zone, units and currency, so answers match your Roamer settings
- Vehicles you add later
Location data is yours to share or not. When you add Roamer to an assistant Roamer knows, Location data is on; for other apps it starts off. With it on, the assistant can also read where your vehicle is now and the saved place where your vehicle is parked, the coordinates of your saved places, and the GPS coordinates, addresses and route of a drive or charge you ask about. Turn it off and the assistant reads your drives and charges but sees only the names of your saved places and the network and town of public chargers. Each assistant has its own setting, which you can switch anytime under Account → Connected Apps.
Rivian trip planning lets the assistant plan trips with Rivian's trip planner on your Rivian account and, when you ask, send a planned trip to your vehicle's navigation, which can wake your vehicle. It needs Location data, because a trip starts where your vehicle is now. It starts on for assistants Roamer knows and off for other apps. With it off, the assistant can't plan or send trips. Switch it under Account → Connected Apps; turning Location data off turns it off too.
Assistants never get your Rivian credentials, verification codes or payment details. Roamer asks for your Rivian password only when you link your Rivian account on Roamer's website or in the Roamer iPhone app, never when you add Roamer to an assistant. Never type a password into a chat.
Each assistant's provider keeps your conversations, including the Roamer data the assistant reads, under its own terms and your settings with that assistant, which may allow training on them.
When an answer is wrong or Roamer can't answer a question, the assistant may send Roamer a short note of what you asked and what went wrong, so Roamer can fix or add it. The assistant is asked to describe it in general terms, without personal details. Roamer keeps the note with its request logs, for up to a year.
What assistants can change
Roamer edits lets an assistant edit your Roamer data when you ask. It starts on for assistants Roamer knows and off for other apps, and you can switch it under Account → Connected Apps. With it on, an assistant can:
- Make a trip from its dates, rename or redate it, and add or remove drives and charges
- Tag drives and charges, such as every drive you took on a weekday, up to 1,000 at a time
- Enter what you paid for a charge or mark it free, in place of the cost Roamer worked out or Rivian billed
- Save a place where a charge happened, where a drive ended or, with Location data on, where your vehicle is now, and set or remove a saved place's tag and price per kWh. If you ask, past drives and charges there pick up the place and its tag where they have none. Past charges there with no price take the place's price, and so do ones priced at your default rate unless the place is Home.
- Set up, change or remove a mileage goal
- Write, change or remove a note on a drive
- Name a tire set, or give it back Rivian's name
Assistants can't delete a drive, charge, trip or saved place, rename or move a saved place, or change your account or subscription. Do those on Roamer's website.
Whether an assistant asks before each change is a setting in that assistant. Each change comes back with what it replaced, so you can ask the assistant to undo it, or change it back on Roamer's website. Roamer takes at most 30 changes from your assistants in 10 minutes.
Limits
Roamer's MCP server is for asking questions, not for exporting your data. An assistant reads raw readings a day at a time, and summaries for longer stretches. To get a copy of everything Roamer has recorded, download an archive.
Roamer limits how many requests your assistants can make, and may lower those limits. When an assistant reaches one, Roamer tells it how long to wait.
Disconnect an assistant
On Roamer's website, go to Account → Connected Apps, select the assistant, then select Disconnect. Disconnecting stops new reads and changes right away. It doesn't delete what the assistant already received, undo changes it made, or change your Roamer Plus.
Removing Roamer inside an assistant doesn't reach Roamer. Disconnect in Roamer to stop it.
A connection stays until you disconnect it, change your Roamer password, sign out your other sessions, delete your account, or leave it unused for 180 days. Changing your password or signing out your other sessions disconnects every assistant at once. After a connection ends, add Roamer to the assistant again.
If Roamer Plus ends, your connections stay in place, but assistants can't read or change your Roamer data. They work again when Roamer Plus is active, without adding Roamer again.
Troubleshooting
Roamer's window says "Roamer can't connect this app." Roamer doesn't support that assistant yet, or the window stayed open longer than 15 minutes. Start again from your assistant.
Roamer's window says connecting needs Roamer Plus. The Roamer account you signed in with doesn't have active Roamer Plus. If your Roamer Plus is on a different Roamer login, choose Use a different account. If you don't plan to get Roamer Plus, remove Roamer from the assistant.
Roamer's window says "Connecting AI assistants is paused." Roamer paused AI assistant access while a problem is fixed. Roamer's website and app still work. Try again later.
The assistant says Roamer Plus isn't active. The connection stays in place and works again once Roamer Plus is active. Until then, scheduled tasks get the same answer; turn them off in the assistant.
Roamer stopped answering. The connection ended. Add Roamer to the assistant again. Claude may not ask you to sign in again; remove Roamer in Claude and add it again.
The assistant doesn't know about something new in Roamer. Each assistant keeps its own copy of Roamer's tool list. Start a new chat. If that doesn't help, refresh Roamer or add it again in the assistant's settings.
A reading looks old. Roamer answers with the last reading it saved, and each reading carries the time it was taken. A sleeping vehicle can go hours without sending a new one.
An answer looks wrong, or Roamer can't answer. Tell the assistant what's wrong. It can send Roamer a short note so Roamer can fix the answer or add what's missing.
