Messaging and Calling

Rivian Assistant now:

  • Uses an updated search hierarchy to identify the contact you are trying to reach by first searching your Favorites, then your Recents, and finally your main contact list.
  • Better recognizes harder-to-spell names, nicknames, or slightly mispronounced names.
  • Automatically defaults to mobile numbers when calling a contact and uses natural language (like “Work” or “Home”) when it asks you to confirm which number to dial.
  • Allows you to ask for information about a contact without automatically starting a call by saying something like, “Hey, Rivian, what number do I have for Mom?”

Conversations

  • When you dictate a text message, Rivian Assistant now automatically adds punctuation for you.
  • We’ve tuned the “Hey, Rivian” model to be more responsive, reducing the number of times you need to repeat yourself.
  • Rivian Assistant now has a better understanding of the hardware associated with your vehicle. For example, if you’re in an R1T, it knows the vehicle doesn’t have a powered liftgate.
  • If the connection drops while Rivian Assistant is processing your request, it now lets you know instead of staying silent.

Navigation

  • Rivian Assistant is now aware of routes visible on your screen before you start navigation, allowing you to ask for charging information or trip details for a route preview.
  • Rivian Assistant is now better at finding points of interest (POIs) and recalling recent destinations.
  • Updating a saved location (like Work) via voice no longer accidentally resets your charging filters.
  • We fixed an issue that caused every stop on a long trip to show the same arrival time.

Climate and Comfort

  • If cabin climate is off and you ask Rivian Assistant to set a temperature, it now restores your previous fan settings instead of defaulting to the lowest speed.
  • If you issue a vague climate request, like, “Hey, Rivian, make it warmer,” Rivian Assistant now has a more sensible starting point for how much to increase the temperature, rather than just guessing.
  • We fixed several logic issues to ensure Rivian Assistant heats the exact seat you requested every time.

Calendar

  • If you have certain events hidden on your personal calendar, Rivian Assistant now honors those settings and won’t display or read them out loud in the vehicle.
  • Rivian Assistant now anchors correctly to your local time and day when you ask a question like, “What’s on my schedule this Friday?” or “What’s happening tomorrow?”
  • Rivian Assistant now uses the correct past, present, and future tenses when describing your events, making the conversation feel more natural.

Cabin

Based on community feedback, we’ve reduced the volume of the chimes when using Rivian Assistant.

Under the Hood

  • Availability of Rivian Assistant is now based strictly on your vehicle language setting, regardless of your geographic region. If your vehicle language is set to English, Rivian Assistant is available.
  • We added smarter logic for how Rivian Assistant connects to the cloud, making it more resilient in areas with spotty cellular service.
  • If the vehicle temporarily loses its location, Rivian Assistant is now much better at providing helpful weather information without getting confused.
  • We fixed spacing issues in the messaging interface and ensured that long titles in the Owner’s Guide wrap properly on the screen.
  • Rivian Assistant Memory (information Rivian Assistant learns to help you better) is protected by per-user encryption keys.
  • Rivian Assistant now automatically clears chat history and the visual panel whenever you switch driver profiles, ensuring conversations are yours alone.
  • We fixed dozens of issues and made various performance improvements behind the scenes.

NOTE

In order to get the most out of your experience with your Rivian Assistant, enable Rivian Assistant Memory in the Rivian mobile app version 3.12 or later. Choose Account > Rivian Intelligence > Memory and turn it on.

Additional Improvements

  • Profile Authentication
    • Fixed an issue that allowed a garage to be accessed and opened despite the profile being locked.
    • Fixed an issue that locked the profile when Stay off was selected while Camp courtesy was active.
    • Fixed an issue that prevented the PIN entry screen from appearing when attempting to switch profiles if the PIN screen had previously been canceled.
    • After a PIN is successfully entered to unlock a driver profile, the Navigation app now opens on the center display by default.
  • To help improve driving with the flow of traffic during Universal Hands-Free, Highway Assist, and Adaptive Cruise Control, we reduced the minimum speed to 5 mph (8 km/h).
  • Fixed an issue that caused certain Launch Mode visual elements to overlap on the center display.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the garage door pairing menu to appear on top of the reverse camera screen if you shifted into R (Reverse) while setting up a new garage door opener.
  • Fixed an issue with the Drive Modes app flashing black when you made changes.
  • Fixed an issue affecting saved Data and Privacy settings. Please reconfirm your preferences under Settings > Data and privacy on the center display.

New Rivian Assistant

Use the AI-powered, in-vehicle Rivian Assistant to help with the following:

  • Control vehicle settings, climate control, navigation, media, messaging and calling.
  • Reference the Owner's Guide with your voice.
  • Answer general knowledge or follow-up questions. You can ask about local restaurants, the weather at your destination, or the song that was just played.
  • Explain in-vehicle alerts or notifications or walk you through troubleshooting steps for vehicle concerns.

How to Use

To use Rivian Assistant, complete the first-time setup on the center display. To activate Rivian Assistant, use one of these methods:

  • Long-press the left thumbwheel on the steering wheel.
  • Tap Rivian Assistant in the status bar on the center display.
  • Say "Okay, Rivian" or “Hey, Rivian.”

To stop a command or interaction, press the left thumbwheel or tap the Rivian Assistant wave graphic on the center display. To learn more about Rivian Assistant, ask it about what it can do. To opt out or deactivate the wake words, go to Settings > Apps > Rivian Assistant on the center display. For more information, go to the Owner's Guide and search for Rivian Assistant.

How to Personalize

In the Rivian mobile app version 3.12 or later, you can personalize your Rivian Assistant experience through Rivian Intelligence. Go to Account > Rivian Intelligence to turn on these features:

  • Google Calendar: Connect your calendar so you can create, re-schedule, or navigate to events using Rivian Assistant.
  • Memory: Rivian Assistant learns your preferences over time, such as favorite music genres, restaurants, and regular destinations, including work or school drop-off locations. You can turn off Memory or delete the stored details at any time.

NOTES

  • The mobile app saves the Rivian Intelligence settings to your driver profile and applies them to any Rivian vehicle you drive.
  • Rivian Assistant is available on vehicles that are actively subscribed to Connect+ or are in a trial period.
  • Rivian Assistant is only available in English.
  • Google Calendar and Memory are turned off by default. Opt in to use these features.
  • When you turn on Rivian Assistant, your vehicle automatically turns off Alexa and all Alexa integrations.

Secure Your Profile

Gen 1: The Profile authentication feature helps secure your profile with a four- to six-digit PIN (Personal Identification Number), so only you or your phone key can unlock your driver profile and personalized settings on any Rivian vehicle you drive. To set this up, go to Profile > Account > Security > Profile PIN in the Rivian mobile app version 3.12 or later.

Gen 2: The Profile authentication feature helps secure your profile with a four- to six-digit PIN (Personal Identification Number), so only you or your key—digital or phone—can unlock your driver profile and personalized settings on any Rivian vehicle you drive. To set this up, go to Profile > Account > Security > Profile PIN in the Rivian mobile app version 3.12 or later.

NOTE

If the Profile authentication feature is turned on, the following apply:

  • Gen 1: The vehicle authenticates you and your profile only if it detects a phone key. If it doesn't detect a key, the center display prompts you to enter a PIN.
  • Gen 2: The vehicle authenticates you and your profile only if it detects a digital or phone key. If it doesn't detect a key, the center display prompts you to enter a PIN.
  • The Profile PIN applies to all Rivian vehicles that you own or drive.
  • When the profile is locked, you have limited access to vehicle features until you authenticate.

Additional Improvements

  • Gen 2: Rivian Autonomy Platform
    • Improved defrost for the front driver assistance cameras to increase the availability of driver assistance features.
    • Improved the smoothness and comfort of Autonomy+ features, Lane Change on Command and Universal Hands-Free.
  • Improved the performance and reliability of remote commands from the Rivian mobile app.
  • Gen 2: Fixed a very rare issue that prevented passive locking when multiple digital keys were present in the vehicle.
  • Added the current road name to the navigation map on the center display.
  • Infotainment
    • Fixed a rare issue that inadvertently turned off the HD Radio setting.
    • Fixed a rare issue that prevented or delayed rendering of graphics on the Drive Modes and Camping screens.
    • Fixed issues that caused a color mismatch between the text and theme in the Settings app for Lane departure warning, the tire rotation notification, and Kneel status.
  • Gen 2: Fixed a rare issue with range estimation during charging at a low or high state of charge.
  • Gen 2: Fixed a rare issue that kept a cabin door from properly latching when you closed the door.
